Your Holidays

We recognise our staff are wholly committed while they are at work, and it can be intense, so our approach to holidays is intended to allow you time to rest, to renew and to enjoy yourself away from work in support of your health, fitness and personal wellbeing.  In addition to your annual leave we pay the eight Bank Holidays each year (pro rata for part time employees) and we have two Union Closure Days each year, one at Christmas and one at Easter, which are paid.  We also recognise the University Closure Days, currently four days at Christmas and one at Easter, and these too are paid.  For more information see the Wellbeing & Leave Policy.

We have two Flexible Working arrangements to help you manage your work, personal and family commitments.  Flexi-time gives you flexibility around how you manage your working hours without the need to apply formally to change your contractual working pattern. Flexible Working means you can formally request a change in your working arrangements to meet your needs and wider commitments and personal preferences. We consider all requests in the context of your needs and the needs of the Union in delivering its services.

These are fully explained in the Flexible Working Policy.

Flexible Leave

We are keen to help you to manage your home and work responsibilities.  Recognising your individual needs will differ depending on your circumstances we have a range of parental and other leave offers.  You can find out more in the relevant People Policy.

Maternity Leave
Paternity/Partners Leave
Parental Leave and Shared Parental Leave
Adoption Leave

We also provide support and flexibility through Dependent’s’ Leave, Compassionate Leave and Sabbatical Leave all of which are explained in our Wellbeing and Leave Policy.

Supporting Your Wellbeing

Time out is important so we offer a range of opportunities to relax and refresh such as Christmas get-togethers, staff away days, access to sports facilities and more.  We run a Wellbeing Week in February and encourage wellbeing activities through the year.  We make sure you get to hear about these through the year and have the chance to get involved.

Sports Facilities

As partners in the delivery of UoNSport, the Students’ Union is able to offer staff access to the University’s sports facilities, including the new David Ross Sports Village at University Park as well as the Jubilee and Sutton Bonington sports centres.  For more information check out the UoN Staff Sports Membership web page.

Counselling and Support

Sometimes we need a bit more support. The Union’s Occupational Health Service provided by Medigold is confidential and available to all staff.  You can access it by contacting the HR team in confidence for a referral.  The costs will be covered by the Union. You can also access the University Counselling Service which is a free service for staff and students of The University of Nottingham and as a member of the Students’ Union staff team you can access it too. The service can provide support through offering confidential, professional help with personal, emotional or mental health problems.
